The Southeast District Athletic Board has established an award to recognize men and women who have provided long and dedicated service as timers, announcers, scorekeepers, team physicians or chain crew volunteers. The Friend of Youth Award honors those who have given countless hours and years in this capacity. It takes many volunteers to enable a school athletic program to function smoothly.

Timers, announcers, scorekeepers, doctors and chain crew members are instrumental in this regard. The board is pleased to recognize these dedicated:

Shawn Priest has served as scorekeeper for the Fairfield athletic programs for the past 25 years, keeping the book for both the boys and girls programs. Priest has kept the book for the Lady Lions basketball team for six of those 25 years, with the other 19 being donated to the boys side. Priest's diligence to keep a neat and organized scorebook comes from her family roots, as her late father, James R Priest, was the Fairfield Lion scorekeeper for almost 40 years, and had the honor of being the official scorekeeper at the 1985 girls state basketball tournament.

"Shawn's hard work, persistence, and overall joy for the game of basketball has made her a great asset to the Lion and Lady Lion basketball program the past 25 years. We are very lucky to have someone such as Shawn in our school system" - Fairfield Athletic Director Matt Carson.
